More than 8 in 10 respondents to a recent CBS News/YouGov poll said that the federal government knows more than it is disclosing to the public regarding UFOs, after the Pentagon released a trove of files on the subject.
The survey, conducted from June 2 to 4, found that 84 percent of 2,023 respondents said that the U.S. government knows more than it is telling the public about UFOs. Just 16 percent, meanwhile, said that the federal government has told the public everything it knows on the issue.
Less than 2 in 10 respondents said they have seen what they thought was a UFO, with 83 percent saying they had not seen such an object. However, nearly two-thirds of respondents believe there is intelligent life on other planets, which CBS News noted is an increase from the less than half of Americans who believed that in 2010.
More than 2 in 10 respondents also believe that humanity has already come in contact with intelligent life from other planets, while 46 percent said it will occur in the future, and one-third said it will never happen.
The poll had a margin of error of 2.8 percentage points.
