As CATL accelerates its push into next-generation battery chemistries, its Naxtra sodium-ion platform is now moving toward public winter testing in passenger cars. As Chinese media reports, according to an informed source, the first models to take part will include vehicles from Changan Oshan, with passenger models from GAC and JAC expected to join the program in the next phase.

The testing campaign builds on CATL’s recent momentum in the commercial vehicle market. On January 22, the company unveiled its Tianxing (Techtrans) II Light Commercial Vehicle Solution alongside a new range of mass-produced sodium-ion batteries.

The 45 kWh packs, developed for light trucks and small-to-medium vans, are designed to tackle one of the toughest challenges in electric mobility: reliable operation in extreme cold. They support plug-and-charge functionality and maintain full-load climbing performance even at temperatures as low as –22°F, making them particularly well-suited for harsh winter conditions.
