New Jersey-based Thea Energy has unveiled the preconceptual design of Helios, its stellarator-based fusion power plant, compatible with today’s manufacturing, construction, and maintenance facilities. The company says its approach is a realistic way to build a nuclear fusion power plant without relying on a major scientific breakthrough in the future.

Nuclear fusion is the holy grail of clean energy. Replicating the process that powers the Sun, fusion energy promises to deliver abundant, clean energy with no carbon emissions. Companies have invested heavily to unlock this technology and build commercial power plants of the future. But Thea Energy is not taking the same path.
