Hyundai Motor Group's Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) company, Supernal, pulled the wraps on its latest electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) vehicle at CES 2024. Named S-A2, this pilot-plus-four-passenger aircraft represents a significant leap forward in the company's quest to bring safe, efficient, affordable air travel to urban areas.
The S-A2 builds upon the foundation laid by its predecessor, the S-A1, introduced at CES 2020. With a sleek V-tail design, the S-A2 is engineered for a cruising speed of 120 miles per hour at an altitude of 1,500 feet, catering to the typical city operation needs for short-distance trips of 25 to 40 miles.
At the heart of this electric VTOL is a distributed electric propulsion architecture featuring eight all-tilting rotors, ensuring a quiet takeoff at 65 dB and even quieter horizontal cruising at 45 dB.
