God's mind was behind complex scientific theories such as the Big Bang, and Christians should reject the idea that the universe came into being by accident, Pope Benedict said on Thursday.
"The universe is not the result of chance, as some would want to make us believe," Benedict said on the day Christians mark the Epiphany, the day the Bible says the three kings reached the site where Jesus was born by following a star.

And then there is this wonderful quote from cosmologist, Sir Fred Hoyle:
"If you stir up simple nonorganic molecules like water, ammonia, methane, carbon dioxide and hydrogen cyanide with almost any form of intense energy ... some of the molecules reassemble themselves into amino acids ... demonstrated ... by Stanley Miller and Harold Urey. The ... building blocks of proteins can therefore be produced by natural means. But this is far from proving that life could have evolved in this way. No one has shown that the correct arrangements of amino acids, like the orderings in enzymes, can be produced by this method. .... A junkyard contains all the bits and pieces of a Boeing 747, dismembered and in disarray. A whirlwind happens to blow through the yard. What is the chance that after its passage a fully assembled 747, ready to fly, will be found standing there? Adam Crowl wrote "The Fred Hoyle quote at the bottom of that post is stunningly outdated and inaccurate these days. Biomolecules - especially enzymes - aren't like the parts of a Jumbo at all. There's a lot more "wiggle room" in the amino acid sequences of enzymes - a huge range of working enzymes are produced in the natural world which do the same chemical task with very different sequences. Hoyle's problem isn't the problem it is portrayed to be."
