THE SPIRITUAL UNIVERSE
According to the Author
Why do we believe in the soul? It is
simply the fact that each of us is aware that we are aware, and, even more,
aware that we are responsible for our lives and the lives of others.
This responsibility that we may call the "essential goodness of humanity"
is reflected to us by the incessant knowledge of our own mortality. We
know that our actions can heal, harm, enliven, or destroy other life forms.
In brief, we are aware of our souls because we are aware of our impending
deaths and our sense of "goodness." Unlike other scientists
who write about the subject of the soul but miss dealing with the essential
mysteries of death and goodness the book addresses them directly and in
a new light. Faced with many moral and ethical dilemmas, including
the right to life and the death penalty, it offers a new vision, based
on quantum physics and modern science in general, of evidence for the physical
presence of the soul. It shows that the gap separating modern science
and current spiritual thinking is actually mistaken. It shows, how the
soul, the self, and the personality while related conceptually, are actually
different.
Several questions are finally answered.
Did we ever in the past lose our souls? Can a soul actually leave
a body? Can the soul be polluted? Can it be enlightened or is
it already enlightened? Is it in danger and subject to the forces of
good and evil? Does the soul we refer to so glibly really exist? Is
it something as tangible as physical energy or matter? Does it literally
leave the body at death and travel to another location? If so where
does it go? Or are these conceptual considerations of the soul too literalistic,
too simplistic to be taken seriously? Can we prove the existence of the
soul once and for all? Can we scientifically prove that it does exist?
Are we faced with total and complete oblivion at death? What is the soul's
behavior in matter? What is its behavior in the human body? In an animal
body? Do dogs and other animals have souls? Does a single cell have
one? What happens to the soul after death of the body? Is the soul,
if it exists, responsible for a human being's actions? If it is not responsible
then who or what is?

HOW DID THE IDEA ORIGINATE?
-
The idea sprung from my earlier books
as a natural progression and my own curiosity and research into the relationship
of matter and consciousness.
WHAT SPECIAL RESEARCH WAS INVOLVED?
Lots of meetings with fellow physicists/philosophers
interested in such matters and many spiritual researchers. Also lots of
work in the library especially working with the ancient Greek and ancient
Egyptian concepts of the soul. I also read many references and did research
in Egypt.
WHAT IS THE COMPETITION AND HOW DOES THE BOOK DIFFER?
My book will be compared with the several
books written about the soul by a number of writers and researchers. The
major difference between these other books and mine, is the attempt to
explain the soul in terms of modern science, particularly quantum physics.
This has not been thought of before.
WHAT POINTS SHOULD BE EMPHASIZED IN THE
PROMOTION OF MY BOOK?
The uniqueness of the book should be
emphasized (see above). My training as a physicist and my years of research
into the relationship of mind and body gives me a perspective that the
ordinary reader-seeker would not have. The major conclusion of the
book that our souls are real and from the imaginal realm as well as different
from the self will be of interest to the general intelligent reader.
IN YOUR OPINION, WHAT SPECIAL MARKETS
DOES YOUR BOOK HAVE?
From my previous writings, I found that
my audience includes scientists, intellectually concerned adults, people
interested in the areas of science and mysticism, fans of physics who had
difficulty in school with physics but love to read about it, people interested
in spiritual matters especially how science and spiritual knowledge relate,
and people who are always thinking about their own theories of physics.
(There are probably more of the latter than I would imagine.)
This book will also be a cross-over
into new markets. It could be a useful book for students of biology,
physics, anthropology, spirituality, and even political science. I would
suggest advertising the book in college newspapers and even approaching
departments of psychology at leading universities. It could well serve
as a supplementary text for several psychology courses.
The "new age" market will
find the book of great interest. I would suggest several new age magazines,
such as NEW AGE JOURNAL, MAGICAL BLEND, and others. I discovered
a new market consisting of psychologists, management consultants and psychiatrists
as well as those interested in neurobiology, neurophysiology, and medicine.
This market I believe will want the information contained in The Spiritual
Universe because they are seeking explanations for states of
awareness beyond the realm of classical psychiatry.
