The Crick Brain Beat
The Crick electric near field oscillating at 40 Hz over the brain cavity of about 10 centimeters consists of approximately a billion billion billion billion longitudinally polarized (i.e., the electric force oscillates in the direction of propagation) “soft virtual photons” in the same coherent quantum state. These virtual photons are not the real photons of far field radiation that is transversely polarized perpendicular to their direction of propagation at the speed of classical light. The effective speed of the virtual photons is faster-than-classical light. That is, quantum light is not limited to the speed of classical light.
